New Fyrinnae Swatches!

Happy Tuesday zombies!

Today I have some new and 'new to me' Fyrinnae swatches! As most of you know, Fyirnnae is one of my favorite "handmade eyeshadow" companies. They've long been my favorite and still to this day amaze me with the new shades they create. I decided to pick up some of the colors I don't already own and some that are new for the Summer 2015 season.

*Be sure to click images for maximum awesome!

I ordered mini sizes of the following:

Nepenthe
Capybara (new June 2015)
Conjured Tempest (new Feb. 2015)
Peppermint Vodka
Midnight Dreary
Serene Highness (new Feb. 2015)
Zanzibar (new May 2015)
Bawdy Librarian
Wizard's Wedding Cake (arcane magic)
Debonair
Ailurophile (new Feb. 2015)
Birb of Paradise (new June 2015)
Celestial Beauty was my free sample (new June 2015)

I love Fyrinnae's new business cards!

Descriptions per Fyrinnae website:

Celestial Beauty: A rich blend of shimmering violet and blue is enhanced with a touch of bronze sparkle.
Nepenthe: Vivid, metallic Byzantium purple, unlike any of our existing shades.
Conjured Tempest: Deep murky green with a vibrant pink-purple highlight.
Peppermint Vodka: Lush, rich, shimmering burgundy enhanced with copper sparkle.
Midnight Dreary: Velvety, vibrant, shimmering blue is enhanced with gold sparkle.
Capybara: Designed somewhat like our Serendipity to give a complex everyday look with one shade, this shadow is a muted blend of pink and red hues over a transparent base (which may appear dark gray depending on application).
Zanzibar: Vibrant deep turquoise topped with a greenish gold highlight and an overall metallic finish.
Bawdy Librarian: This is no basic brown! This, my good guys and dolls, is a lush, shimmery, golden brown rich with gold sparkle. Cameras cannot capture its true beauty; you must get to know the shade in person. Warm-toned, but would work well on many skintones.
Wizard's Wedding Cake: Bold icy blue shimmer, which changes to pink closer to light or at an angle, is set on a deep chocolate brown base.
Serene Highness: Medium cool violet topped with a vibrant highlight of varying green hues (shimmer, not sparkle).
Debonair: Warm, shimmery lilac graced with a glowing coppery highlight.
Ailurophile: An elegant blend of soft purple and gold in various tones. Slightly metallic finish with a touch of small-particle sparkle.
Birb of Paradise: Glowing royal blue tops a velvety deep brown base hue. Shown swatched over regular primer, but over a sticky base the blue will be more prominent and metallic. makes a great liner.

Indoor SWATCHES!

I used Pixie Epoxy as a base (also from Fyrinnae.)

Outdoor

My absolute favorite from this lot is 'Serene Highness'. I'm a sucker for purple/blue duochrome eyeshadow it's followed closely by 'Conjured Tempest.' This shade looks inconspicuous in the jar, but once swatched, it takes on a whole life of it's own. It's a light taupe with a lovely purple sheen. I'm also very excited about 'Birb of Paradise' seeing as how I don't have a color at all like it in my collection. It's a rich navy blue that is smooth and lovely. 'Nepenthe', 'Zanzibar' and 'Bawdy Librarian' also pack a punch and make me happy! I must say that it is a must to use a base with Fyrinnae's pigments. Also, make sure you pat them on your lids as opposed to brushing them on. The color and glitter payoff is much greater that way.

With this purchase, I now own 111 Fyrinnae eyeshadow shades. I'm not at all ashamed of this!

Do you see something in this bunch that you adore? Full sized Fyrinnae eyeshadows are $6.75 each and mini sizes (1/3 of a tsp) are $2.75. The mini sizes are full of product and in all the years I've been blogging, I don't think I've gone through an entire mini sized jar. A little bit of Fyrinnae goes a LONG way. ;)

Fyrinnae Magic...I mean Exquisites!

Happy Hump Day my lovely readers!

As most of you know, Fyrinnae is by far my favorite indie cosmetics company and has been since I first started blogging. So when they post about new products, I jump on it like a kid getting candy! I was SUPER excited to hear about the new Arcane Magic "Exquisites" line and decided to purchase one of each, as well as a few other shades I've been lusting after.

"Exquisites are a new variation of our popular Arcane Magic eye shadows.

These new shadows have stronger color shifts without depending on an opaque base hue, making them stunning alone or over many other colors. The transparency makes them suitable for a wide variety of skintones without compromising color.
A sticky base is highly recommended.

They are packed in the same size jars as our other eyeshadows, and weigh a little less (about 2.3 grams) due to lighter weight ingredients. As with all our Arcane line, the initial color description is from about an arm's length away, then closer and near an indoor light source (sunlight can wash out the shades and effect). A full size jar, which is packed down and filled as much as possible, holds over 5x as much as the Mini jar contains.

Ingredients: Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Mica, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isododecane, Magnesium Stearate. May contain: Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Manganese Violet, Tin Oxide, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Dimethicone, Zinc Stearate, Ferric Ferrocyanide."

I had a few issues placing my order via the website. I'd get to the payment page and get an error each time I tried to pay my invoice. :( Fyrinnae helped to cancel my order so that I could start all over, and once I'd added my selections to the cart and went to check out, I received the same error. I was distraught and had pretty much given up to wait to try a week or so. Much to my surprise, the order shipped that same week and I received it in 2 days. Per my invoice, Fyrinnae had shipped my order gratis due to the trouble with order. I was floored and SO excited. I love the customer service at Fyrinnae and the extra care they take to make things just right.

The Exquisites: (descriptions per Fyrinnae website)

Elegant Revelry:  Varying shades of green and turquoise sparkle on a transparent light reddish brown base hue away from direct light. Closer to light or at certain angles, it becomes light blue and ruddy pink. Very sparkly finish.

Breathtaking: Away from direct light, vibrant pink sparkle and shimmer appear to glow on sheer beige. Closer to light or at certain angles, it shifts to a bright golden peach shade. Very sparkly finish.

Dreamwoven Luxuries: Away from direct light, this appears a complex blend of red and blue hues. Closer to light or at certain angles, it changes to shades of green and gold. Shimmery finish, somewhat metallic when foiled or over a sticky base. This shade is the most opaque of the new five.

On Wings of Silk: Pink sparkles mingle with a transparent pale bronze away from direct light. Closer to light or at certain angles, it shifts to gleaming greenish gold with with hues of peach and lime. Very sparkly finish.

Princess for a Day: Turquoise-blue sparkle tops a sheer burgundy hue for a striking effect. Closer to light or at certain angles, it turns vivid pink. Very sparkly finish.

Core line:

Sakura: Varying hues of pale lavender shimmer make this shadow a great glowing highlight. Try applying over a black base (shadow, cream liner, etc) for a great effect.

Oh, My Stars: Brilliant lime green filled with violet and purple sparkle.

Witchy Woodland Creatures: Glimmering, multi-faceted cocoa taupe. Shades of copper and silver, with hints of pink, gold, and green shimmer on a neutral taupe-brown base make this shadow suitable for a wide range of skintones.

When I Grow Up (free sample): This shade is a "glowing" multi-hue lavender. It's not pastel, but a semi-sheer sparkle shade much like Electric Stardust and Otherworld.

SO much sparkle!

Let's just talk about "Princess for a Day" for a moment. It's so so beautiful and sparkly. It photographed differently each time I took a picture. The base is a rose color and it's topped with wonderful blue and pink sparkles that shine. It's amazing, I just can't even stand it. I did have to use a really sticky base for my swatches (Pixie Epoxy) to get the sparkle to adhere and minimize fallout.

Here I am wearing "Princess for a Day" over a black base!

My second favorite in this lot is "Breathtaking". It's a gorgeous rose/gold and it shifts to different colors depending on the angle. Again, very sparkly and pigmented!  "Elegant Revelry" is another uber sparkly shade, with lots of dimension and shine. I love it! Honestly, I really do love them all. They are all pigmented, shimmery, blend-able and the new Fyrinnae formula makes them almost a creamy consistency that is so easy to apply to the eyelid.

"Oh, My Stars" is also a really fun lime green shade with gold sparkles. I bought it mainly for it's name and because it's lime green. ;) "Witchy Woodland Creatures" is a fabulous neutral shade with a punch of sparkle. Beautiful.

I'm extremely happy with the Exquisites line and I can't wait to see what's on the horizon for Fyrinnae. If you'd like to read more about the Exqusities- check out THIS post.

A mini sized jar of these shadows are $2.75 (1/4 tsp) and a full sized jar (3 grams) is $8.00- the prices are based on (per the Fyrinnae blog):

"The determining factor on keeping these and building upon the collection will be how well they sell for the "second round". With every new release, there are rapid sales in the first few days. Sometimes more than others (Royalty, the new purple blush, sold astoundingly well in the first 2-3 weeks, much to our surprise). After the initial rush, if there is still demand and response is good, we shall keep going with them. The price will be higher due to the considerably higher cost of specialized colorants and the ratio in which they are used."

Please help support Fyrinnae to keep the Exquisites line alive!

Do you own any of the new Exquisite shades? What is your favorite Fyrinnae eyeshadow?

Fyrinnae Summer 2014 Collection!

Zombies!

If you've been a long time reader of MZ, you probably already know that Fyrinnae is one of my favorite indie companies. So anytime a new collection comes out, I *try* to snag it the same day. The summer collection is no exception, especially since.... BRIGHTS!!!

(Please clink images for maximum awesome!)

Descriptions per the Fyrinnae website-

Inappropriate Popsicles: Bright, rich purple, nearly matte, with a very slight satiny finish. May appear darker over certain bases or primers.

Fallen Angel Food Cake: Bright tangerine yellow, nearly matte but with a subtle hint of fine shimmer.

Drunken Gummy Bear: Vibrant lime green, nearly matte but with a barely-there fine shimmer.

Admiral Ferret: Bright cobalt, nearly matte, with a very slight satiny finish. May appear darker over certain bases or primers, and may temporarily stain skin.

Vicious Garden Gnome: Vibrant rose pink, nearly matte with with a slight satiny finish.

Gaiety (free sample:) Gleaming, glittering, cheerful aqua! A light but vibrant shimmering blue-green is further enhanced with plenty of coordinating sparkle.

Before I move on to the swatches, I wanted to mention that when I first opened up the jars, I was a little taken aback. (Apparently it's been a little while since I placed an order.) I was expecting to see the typical Fyrinnae formula I'm use to: smooth, buttery, powdery and sparkly! I was almost disappointed in the small, round ball formations I was seeing in the jars and hoping that because most of the shades are nearly matte, that they wouldn't be impossible to apply.

Then I read this on the website:

*** In January 2013, Fyrinnae's loose eye shadows were reformulated (orders shipped in the last eight days of January onward will have the new version). This will most likely reduce fallout (during application and wearing) and may increase wear time. Product will appear clumpy in the jar. This is also likely to affect pressing results for those who do so at home. Ingredient list below was updated to reflect the changes. ***

These are not "pigments", but powder eye shadow which aren't pressed to be solid. Our highly concentrated loose eye shadows/liners weigh approximately 3 grams (full size--this is not the size of the jar, but the weight), and are packed in clear jars. Some settling may occur during shipping but at the time of packaging, they are packed down firmly and filled to the top. The Mini jars are smaller, and the 1/3tsp mini size (does not fill jar) is about .4 to .7 gram in weight. Click here for a size comparison photo.
Please keep in mind that the majority of Fyrinnae colours are complex and "layered", they are not repackaged mica. This does alter the application methods for many shades vs. traditional shadows. As with all of our products, all shades are created in our studio/lab then tested by us. We never use glitter in our shadows.
Regular loose eye shadow ingredients:Mica, Styrene/PVP Copolymer, Myristyl Myristrate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isododecane. May contain: Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Manganese Violet, Tin Oxide, Ultramarines, Chromium Oxide, Copper Powder, Bronze Powder, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Red #40, FD&C Yellow #5, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Ferric Ferrocyanide, Silica.

So for those of you, like me who have been long time Fyrinnae fans and are surprised at what you see in the jar, it's a GOOD thing! :D

Swatches! (swatches over pixie epoxy)

Vicious Garden Gnome is my absolute favorite from this collection. It's smooth and beautiful it's such a *me* color. Absolutely awesome.  Fallen Angel Food Cake is another favorite, look how bright it is! It has subtle shimmer within, so it's not completely matte and it applies like a dream. Really, the only shadow in this collection that wasn't as easy to work with was Inappropriate Popsicles. It didn't seem to want to blend evenly, even in a patting motion, so it took a few coats to get even. But once it is applied and even, it's gorgeous! Lookit Admiral Ferret and Drunken Gummy Bear! Both so bright and cheery and summery. I can not wait to play with this collection.

And O M G Gaiety is fantastic! It's sparkly and buttery and a freaking wonderful aqua color!

Frosty Pink, Black, and Silver + Ombre lips!

Good afternoon Zombies!

I hope you've all been well! It's been quite an interesting Fall here in New Mexico! 9 degree weather? What's that!? We've had it and I've been freezing.....

To go along with the icy weather, I thought I'd do a dramatic icy makeup look for fun. I threw some ombre pink and black lips in for good measure! I quite like the final look, as the ombre lips made me feel fierce! ;)

The Goods:
TFSI as primer
Milani "Lovely Frost" Shadow Eyez as base and in water line
Silver from the Wet N Wild "Blue Had Me at Hello" palette on main lid
Matte and glittery black (mixed) from the Wet N Wild "Blue Had Me at Hello" palette in crease
Hi-Fi Cosmetics "Sound Check" for pink above crease, inner corner, and on lower lash line
Fyrinnae "Moon Child" as highlight
Random liner and mascara

Cheeks:
MAC "Fleur Power" blush

Ombre lips:
MAC "Candy Yum Yum" as base
Jordana Cosmetics Glitter Rocks eyeliner in "Black Rocks" as outline

Press your lips together to transfer the black into the pink. Use a lip brush to blend the black more evenly into the pink to create the ombre effect. Once you've done that, outline the lips once more with the black.

And there you have it! Easy peasy ombre lips.

Have a wonderful week everyone!

I did a fun but super simple (and sparkly) look yesterday to match the t-shirt I was wearing. (My husband drew the design!) The combination was too pretty NOT to blog about. Purple and Pink, LOTD!

Zombies!

I asked people on my Facebook fan page to pick my eyeshadow colors a few days ago. My niece Eli requested pink and purple and so I went with it. I wasn't planning on blogging this look, but it's too pretty not to share. Sadly, I didn't take any photos of it with my camera, so the pictures are all from my iPhone. You still get the point!

The Goods:
TFSI as primer
Tick:Tock Cosmetics eyeshadow base in "Milky Way"
Fyrinnae "When I Grow Up" main lid and inner lower lash line
Tick:Tock Cosmetics "Midlife Crisis" blended into and above crease and outer lower lash line

Fyrinnae "Moon Child" as brow bone highlight and tear duct area
Random liner and mascara

Cheeks:

I adore this look so hard! If I do say so myself!
