NYX Duo-Chromatic Illuminating Powder!

Good morning zombies!

I hope you're all having a good week so far. Today is a fun post, as I was able to get my hands on 3 of the new Duo-Chromatic Illuminating Powders from NYX Cosmetics. They are all the buzz right now from Instagram to Youtube (because of their varying colors, giving us dreams of becoming mermaids!) and I wanted to see for myself if they were worth the hype. As soon as I heard they'd launched, I went to my local Ulta to see the sad, barren display case- they'd already sold out. I was SO close! So, I purchased them from the Ulta website. (When all else fails, right?) I purchased them at $7.99 each, but right now on Ulta, they are buy one get one 50% off.

This is the description of the powders from the NYX website:

"Light up your features with NYX Cosmetics' Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder. Available in glowing shades, these silky powders blend like a dream for a fresh-faced look. Their breathtaking formula's light-catching pearls deliver a luminous finish that looks different from every angle. Brush this illuminating wonder along the highest points of the face - such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and Cupid's bow."
Let's take a look! As always, please click the images for maximum awesome!

Here is the front packaging. Pretty sleek if you ask me!  I purchased Lavender Steel, Crushed Bloom and Snow Rose.

Back- there is .21 oz (6 grams) of powder in each compact.

They really do look beautiful.

There are no real shade descriptions, so I'll use my own.

Lavender Steel: an iridescent lavender that pulls almost blurple on the skin. Your mermaid dreams will come true with this highlight!

Crushed Bloom: a gorgeous coral sheen with strong pink undertones. This would be great as a blush or over a cream highlight for more "OOMF!"

Snow Rose: a soft gold and pink sheen. This looks like a regular pearl highlight in the pan but once you swatch it on your skin, BAM, you're a freaking glowing unicorn.

SWATCHES!

I mean, look at the beautiful sheen that Lavender Steel and Snow Rose cast. They are so gorgeous on the face and a lot more subtle than you would imagine- while still being pretty pigmented. They are also very build-able in case you like the look of an intense highlight. I've heard that a few of the shades are being compared to the Kat Von D "Alchemist" palette and soon enough I will own it so that I can do a comparison myself. But, I think that if you're wanting just one of the colors in the Kat Von D palette instead of purchasing the whole thing, this is the way to go. There is also a blue under-toned highlight in this line called "Twilight Tint" that I have not purchased yet. I don't think I need it in my already massive collection.

Overall, I really like this line. It's fun and out of the box for NYX. I like to see them stepping up the game to keep up with the latest makeup trends. If there is one of these you absolutely must own, I'd say it's Snow Rose.

Have you purchased any of the new Duo-Chromatic powders yet? What are your thoughts?

Sexy Vamp Halloween Look!

Zombies!

It's that time of year! My favorite time of year! It's almost Halloween! The time of year we can dress like we want and not give a damn! (I'm sure most of us do that anyway!) I know there's a stigma lately about Halloween these days and "sexy" women's costumes. You have to admit, some of them are just ridiculous and not practical or fun at all. Some are however, classy/sexy and fun! I decided to do a spin on a "sexy vamp" look, while trying to keep it PG.

The Goods:
TFSI as primer
MAC "Blackground" paint pot as base
Matte back eyeshadow from Sleek's "Sunset" pallete on patted on main lid and carried down into outer lower lash line
Fyrinnae's "Sultry Samhain" blended above crease
Evil Shades "Voodoo" blended into "Sultry Samhain" and down into inner lower lash line and tear duct area
MAC "Shroom" as highlight
Sephora liner electro in "Black Electro" to line eyes
Random black mascara

Cheeks:
Milani "Fantastico Mauve" baked powder blush

Lips:
Sephora liner electro in "Black Electro" for outline of lips. I then filled in the two outer portion of my lips in with the liner, leaving the middle of the lips bare. I then patted a matte black eyeshdaow over the black and defined the line with a lip liner brush with the matte eyeshadow. I filled in the middle lip with NYX lip liner in "Fuchsia" and covered the liner with Revlon's "Fuchsia" lipstick. I made sure not to rub my lips together. I then dabbed Fyrinnae's "Sultry Samhain" over the lipstick lightly to give it a glow. I topped it all off with a clear lip gloss to make the lips look wet.

I am super proud of myself and LOVE the way this turned out. I could totally see rocking this look with a fun vampress costume for Halloween or just wearing alone for the night with a black T-shirt. Halloween makeup is fun!

Blond Hair and Smokey Eyez!

Zombies!

Ahhh, how I've missed you all, and it's only been a week. lol

I was going to wait until this weekend to do any blogging, but I kept looking at blogs and swatches, and well, decided to put on my face today. I'm featuring all Darling Girl Cosmetics on my eyes. I am so bummed that my camera didn't pick up the 3 individual colors I used and all the pink glitter in the shadows. :(   Regardless, here's a post to show off my makeup and my hair too.

Hair down. I love the red mixed into the blond. Someone compared it to a Calico cat and that just cracks me up! My bangs are buggin' the shit out of me though.

The Goods:

UDPP all overlid
NYX Jumbo pencil in "Purple Velvet" blended into lid
Darling Girl Cosmetics "Groovology" inner lid and down into lower lash line
Darling Girl Cosmetics "Lap Dance" middle and outer lid and down into lower lash line
Darling Girl Cosmetics "Making Merry" blended into crease
Darling Girl Cosmetics: "Hana Maru" as highlight
Random liners and mascara
(all 3 of the shadows, with the exception of HM have great pink glitter in them.)

Cheeks:
Hard Candy "LIving Doll"

Lips:
NYX Round Lipstick in "Doll"

So what do you think of the hair? And of  Darling Girl Cosmetics?

Who says they can't go together...LOTD!

Evening Zombies!

Yesterday I had people name colors that don't generally go together on the MZ Facebook page.  I think I'll do that a lot more. It was fun!

I decided to take on Orange and Grey today...WOWZA'S people! They can work if you try!

The Goods:

UDPP all over lid
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy over primer
Hi-Fi Cosmetics "Raid the King" all over main lid and into lower lash line
Living Dead Grrl "Lead Jammer" blended above RTK
Hi-Fi Cosmetics "Mosh Pit" blended into crease
Hi-Fi Cosmetics "Words are the Remedy" and MAC "Shroom" combined to highlight

Cheeks:
Fyrinnae Glow Blush in "Enchant"

Lips:
NYX Round lipstick in "Indian Pink"

Isn't Raid the King not the most amazing Neon pink/orange you've ever seen? And it's SO easy to blend. I am so glad this is in my collection!

Hope you all have a fantastic weekend.

Battle of the "mauve-berry" lippies!

Hey Zombies..

I like my new word "mauve-berry." It kills two birds with one stone. lol  Some of you may know that my ALL TIME favorite lipstick is Rimmel's "Just So" a gorgeous medium pink toned berry. It's a creme, with very little shimmer. (I have 2 backups. haha)  I noticed today that I had a few colors that looked similar (which is a good thing for me!) so I thought I'd swatch them and compare.

Check it out!

As you can see, NYX Doll and Wet N' Wild shade 906D are the most similar of the 3 shades, both being just a bit darker than Just So. Doll had the most intensity and lasted the longest on my hand. One swipe and this baby was opaque. 906D was a little dry during application but still awesome pigmentation and my Just So took 2 swipes to get it to maximum velocity and it also doesn't stick around all that long. All three of these lippies can be found in the drugstore or for very little money online, so it won't break the bank. And, each a great alternative if you can't find the others. So, if you're into "mavue-berry" like me, these three lipsticks will rock your socks off.

The hubs and I were in the grochey store last night and he says to me "Look, it's a can of crushed pineapple." I look at him like "And?" And then it hits me... it really is a can of "crushed" pineapple. Get it, get it?! We really have too much time on our hands.
