Anyone who knows me personally knows I have a pretty addictive personality. (makeup, *cough cough*) I told myself after piercing my nose that THIS would be it. I don't need any more body modifications. (I don't have any tattoo's.) And that I was 30 years old and set for life...UNTIL, I saw this:

The Monroe piercing. Also know as the Madonna- depending on which side of the face you get it on.

My nose piercing is on the right side of my face, so I would be getting the "Monroe" and I think it would actually be the "Madonna" on the opposite side. I'd do a much smaller "ball" or stud than the two pictured. And on weekends, I would probably have a black stud. (That's how I roll.) And place a clear pastic retainer in the "hole" for work days, if they approve it.
My 31st birthday (*sigh*) is coming up October 29th, and the husband has already given his "OK." Grudgingly.
Before I do this however, I wanted some feedback from my lovely Zombies. I already know some of your opinions on the matter, but I'd really love to hear your experiecens, pros vs. cons, thoughts, etc.

Go for it - good thing about piercings if you don't like them take it out. My sister had that piercing for awhile and it looked great. She only took it out because she felt it might not be 100% appropriate for working as a doctor at her young age when she need to work up the chain of command.
ReplyDeleteI bet she she settles into a position she will get it back. I have had 11 piercings and actually wear none right now and most of the weird ones you would never pick were there.
@Kira: I work for physician's billing and I never come in contact with patients, but who's to say I stay here forever, ya know? My boss is pretty cool, but I'm still really nervous that she'll say no. Because once I get something in my head, I shake it to death, until it's mine. LMAO 11 piercings?! Where?
ReplyDeleteI say go for it as well! It seems like it could be pretty nice and subtle, and people might actually think it's a mole or freckle or something unless they get up close. DO EEEET!
ReplyDeleteAlso--I turn 31 on Oct 30! :O
@princessfats: OMG, 1 day apart?! That's super cool. A fellow Scorpio = LOVE!
ReplyDeleteWell not to be a party pooper but I to love piercings and love to look at them but some end up being more of a pain than they are worth. I believe The Monroe is one of them. The back of the piercing will be sitting on either your tooth, your gum or your gum line so there will be constant rubbing going on. Just please keep in mind that after a while your mouth will be effected permanently by that. I have provided a list of the normal consequences below.
ReplyDelete•Infections: These can be caused by improperly disinfected piercing tools, an unsterile piercing environment or less than stellar after care on your part.
•Nerve damage: This can happen during the actual piercing if you choose a less than fully experienced piercer.
•Tooth erosion/cracking: If your piercing isn't located in just the right spot, your jewelry will rub against your teeth.
•Tooth decay: This is typically an extension of erosion. Once the enamel is worn off, decay can quickly follow.
•Gum erosion: This is caused when your jewelry rubs against the gums.
•Gum recession: Your gums can shrink away in the spot your jewelry comes in contact with them.
•Tooth scrambling: Without healthy gums, the jawbone itself can be exposed to infection and erosion. When this happens the teeth loosen and change position. Sadly, scrambled teeth are usually the first thing you notice, after the real damage is done.
•Sensitive teeth: This is another by-product of gum recession. As the gums recede, the nerves of the teeth become exposed and sensitive.
I think Monroe's are a hard piercing to get because I think you have to have the right facial structure for it. I DO think it would good on you! That's actually what I thought when you got the nose piercing, I was like "dang she should get a monroe".
ReplyDelete@Annonymous: thank you for the info. You're not a party pooper at all! These are all good things to know.
ReplyDeleteCheck with your local piercer to see if you would be a candidate. It all depends on your facial structure. There are also different jewellery options, flatback labret barbell or fishtail labret. But again this all depends on where your gums/lips sit.
ReplyDeleteBeing someone that has had more bad piercing experiences than good ones, I'd say check it out. I'm a horrible healer and tend to get infected more often than not. D:
P.S. That WTF picture is epic. He looks like he is a dancing crab-man!
ReplyDelete@ Skulda: I agree. The one good thing I have going, is that my piercer was extremely professional, sterile, and quick. The healing time for my nose was pretty anti-climactic. I would hope this would be the same. I want another one, I just don't see piercing my eyebrow, lip, or tongue.
ReplyDeleteJudging from what I've seen of your face, I think it would look ideal on you - I had a friend of mine with a similar face shape and it was super cute on her! I say if your boss won't mind, go for it - I've always wanted my lip pierced, and I know that piercings are as addictive as tattoos! I love my nose piercing.
ReplyDeleteI think a Monroe would look great on you, you have the face for it. Screw your boss, if you want it, get it. If you don't like it, take it out. It'll only be a small scar and you're a make-up zombie, you can cover it easily!
ReplyDeleteI has one! So from experience, I can tell you the only pain in the ass part was last month where it seemed everything I ate wanted out there (EWW!)
ReplyDeleteBut I've had no problems with it, not even a canker sore. I go the the dentist regularly and they've never informed me of any eroding and I've had it for 4 or 5 years now. I could have just gotten lucky with the placement, it doesn't touch my tooth at all unless I do that thing where I suck my lips in when I'm thinking. Why do I do this? I dunno, cuz I rock hard?
:D
And I use a super teeny stud so I hardly even notice it anymore but it's still awesome :)
I say "go for it" if the boss approves. I used to work at the Walmart Home Office, and ANY facial piercing (including the tongue) were grounds for dismissal. They didn't even allow retainers!!! Even tattoos were strongly discouraged. Granted, I had LOTS of piercings...but none you could see...hehe. I did also have a tongue piercing that I hid very well...however, in retrospect, it would have been a shame to lose my salary and totally awesome middle-management job (or even my next promotion) over something so trivial.
ReplyDeleteSince leaving there, I've gotten my nose pierced (and I still have a tongue ring), bringing my total piercing count to 13. Since I'm currently self-employed, luckily, I get to choose the dress-code now. LOL.
Aside from all that, it would be SUPER cute on you. I personally wouldn't get one myself, for the simple fact that I am extremely vain (yes, I'm confessing), and if I ever had to take it out and had a scar there it would probably ruin my life. LOL. (Just kidding!) There's several other facial piercings I wouldn't get for that same reason (eyebrow being a big one...my sister's turned out awful...even after she removed it...and I've seen some labrets scar pretty badly as well). At least the nose piercing is in the "crease" of my nose where a scar would be less noticeable. Also, I know that the amount of scarring strongly depends on the person. Some people scar worse than others...and some don't scar at all.
You might just be one of the lucky ones, and if the chance of a tiny scar doesn't bother you, I say do it!!! :)
Okay, here's the opinion from someone of the older generation. I would rather see you get a tat than another piercing on your face. Or how about 15 more holes in the ear?
ReplyDeleteMZ: Check out some other ideas on my Mod guy's site. Very informative. www.russfoxx.com
ReplyDeleteI think it would be cute on you.
ReplyDeleteI worked with a young woman who had one. She complained that water/fluids would come out of it sometimes. :?
And she had a hard time keeping it in.
I think you'll end up going for it. And, of course, we have to see it too!!!!
I say if you like it, go for it. I love my labret, but I had it pierced up very high (right under my bottom lip, so that it wouldn't rub against my teeth or gum line.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I wish I had gotten my nose and labret done sooner. I love them <3
Personally I just got my nose & my lip pierced & I love them. I think it would look super cute on you, but take you're time you don't have to rush into it right away.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Scorpio too & I thought about mine 20,000 times 20,000 ways. If you do go ahead it will probably leave a very small scar, & you can always get some Mederma to help with that too.
Best of luck whichever you decide!
I think it would look awesome! I always wanted to get that same piercing, but I'm a bit wimpy. lol
ReplyDeletePLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT DO IT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI got a monroe piercing back in the day (OMG 1994)
I loved it and wore it for over 10 years.
Finally decided to take it out and now have a gigantic hole in my face that makeup will not cover and will never go away. Way bigger than a pore, totally noticible to everyone unlike the scar a nose piercing would leave.
I even consulted a plastic surgeon and he told me the best they could do would be to make it look like a wrinkle.
This wasn't a botched piercing, just a toatlly normal scar from having the monroe done.
I'm all for scars, but not on my face.
You're way too pretty!
Get some of those stick on rhinestones instead, just as fabulous without the long term damage!
Before I was a pee tester, I owned a body piercing shop. I spent the last two years I was there trying to talk the young pretty girls out of getting this piercing. Sometimes it worked.
The scar does not look like a mole or anything other than a hole.
If I could go back, I never would have done it.
Hi - I just stumbled on your blog tonight but I think you should go for it! I love that piercing!
ReplyDeleteI have my monroe done and I might have to take it out soon. It's eroding my gum over one tooth. :( Just a thought to keep in mind when getting piercings around the mouth.
ReplyDeleteI've had 6 different facial piercings and unfortunately they have all left marks or scars. I just took out my monroe because there was a keloid underneath it that kept coming back. There's a small scar there now. I had the same problem with one of my nostril piercings so if you've had a problem like that I would advise against a monroe. I now know I scar easily and I realize everyone's body is different so it may be no problem for you. I think you'd look awesome with a monroe actually! If you do go for it, getting a 16 gauge instead of a 14 will minimize the chances of scarring as will going to a good piercer who knows all about placement and strictly following all aftercare instructions. The guy who did my monroe looked at my scar the other day and recommended vitamin E so that's what I'm doing at the moment & hoping it will fade because it's in such a noticeable spot.
