Etsy Spotlight! Dark Heart Designs!

Good evening Zombie.

Would you believe me if I told you I am bored of playing World of Warcraft tonight and I might just post this and go to bed?! I can't even believe I said it. lol

About a month ago, Tina from Dark Heart Designs (based on Etsy) contacted me to see if I would be interested in trying out samples of her eyeshadow and giving her some feedback. I was really pleased with the eyeshadow and decided Dark Heart Designs deserved a spotlight.

One of the very first things that impressed me, even before seeing the samples I received, was the brochure that came with the samples. It lists all the colors in the Etsy store with their descriptions and pictures of the product or how it would look on the eye. There is also more information about Dark Heart Designs, as well as the ingredients used in the products on the brochure. This company does not repackage or test on animals.

The samples came in your typical "sample baggie" with the names of the product hand written on. I don't know if this is typical, as these were sent to me for review purposes. Full size = 1 gram of pigment for $6.00.

I received the following colors (descriptions from brochure and website)
Killing Moon- a medium silver-blue (inspired by Thrice's Under A Killing Moon)
Pink Nights- a bright shimmery pink (inspired by Jeffree Star!)
Purple Haze- A dark, smokey purple (inspired by Jimi Hendrix)
Rave- a bright, medium blue (inspired by Rave makeup)

*these were swatched over Hi-Fi's Shadow Fix*

Is Rave not the most amazing blue you've ever seen? I can't stop staring at it! Pink Nights is equally amazing. I will be purchasing full sizes of both of these! Purple Haze has the faintest bit of sparkle.

I really liked the feel of these shadows and the pigmentation. The are smooth and easy to blend. I also like that they are all very consistent in that they are all shimmer and had very little fallout.

I love the concept of Dark Heart Designs and that all of there eyeshadow is inspired by something freaking awesome (in my book anyway!). Check them out!

Dark Heart Designs can also be found on TWITTER and FACEBOOK!

EDIT 01/12/2011: I received an email from Tina the owner of Dark Heart Designs and she asked me to clear a few questions up. I have copy/pasted her email below.

"I use the typical baggies because I offer free samples (up to 10), and they will fit in a regular envelope. That way it only costs me $.50 per envelope instead of $1.00 or more and a trip to the post office, which would then make more sense to charge for samples. I made a sample pack in my shop in case someone wanted to try all of the colors in my line, which won't logically fit in a letter sized envelope, and it takes forever to make up all the baggies. However, coupons and sales always apply to sample packs and they will always include all of the shadow colors in the line (and lip glosses too, if requested). I hope this makes a little more sense as to why I use the baggies.

I tend to prefer writing the names on the baggies because I feel a little more personality and attention goes into them that way. I have labels with the company name and contact information, which will go on the back side, but I wanted to make things feel a little more human. I never want my company to become so corporate that I can't take the time to tell my customers how much they mean to me, and that they're the reason why I do what I do, even if it's something as insignificant as taking the time to hand write names and notes.

Also, I realize that $6.00 for 1 gram of eyeshadow might be a little pricey compared to other companies, but I'm constantly offering sales. I think I've had at least one every month, including a whole 40% off all products (except gift cards) for the entire month of January, effectively dropping the cost per jar to $3.30."
