TGIF Zombies!
While I am not a "mommy blogger" I follow quite a few mommy blogs, because I absolutely enjoy their blogs. One of my favorites is Christopher and Tia. Tia is the most amazing writer and her children are just adorable. I can relate a lot to her, because we're similar in a few ways. I thought I'd do a little something fun that I got from her blog.
Here I am at 21. Look at that blond hair! Oh, and my shirt says "Strangers have the BEST candy!" Yes. Even then I colored outside the lines. SORRY MOM!

And here I am at 4, looking just like my daughter does now.

THIS is my natural hair color when I was 18! (that's the last time I've seen my real hair!) Look at that "dude, Mom, just take the picture already" face.

So all of this leads me to THIS:

I want to go back to blond and my husband kinda digs it. But as you know, red is SUPER hard to remove from hair, which is why I've never gone back to blond. I need all the suggestions you can give me for getting back to the color in the picture above.
Wasn't this fun!? Please check out Chrisptoher and Tia's blog and play along!

Seriously... I'm kind of hankering to do the same thing....
ReplyDeleteWhat I've been told is: The only way to get red out is to grow your hair without dyeing it.
SERIOUSLY?!
I found a better way. Dye your hair a few times with a temporary black hair color. It washes out the red tones with the black, and gets my hair to a brown-ish tone that would be very easy to highlight! How did I find this out?! I use a temp black dye on the under 1/3 of my hair right now... And as it washes out, my hair is brown! YAY for accidental discoveries!
Though, due to recent polling my friends think I should go fire-engine red with a yellow streak, or blonde with purple streaks. Aye.
Look at YOU! I don't think I've ever actually seen you blonde.
ReplyDeleteOkay this is how I went from red to blond back in the day- I used Wellite bleach with the highest level of developer. It took me two times bleaching to get it all blond but of course you will still have a yellow tint so will need a blue-violet toner to process with afterward. And then you will probably need some good ol repair leave-in treatment & maybe a trim after. It's gonna dry it the eff out but that's fixable. I had my hair basically white. Also use a purple shampoo about once a week, maybe twice. Don't do it every day unless you want lilac highlights. I too was aching to do it again but I have some scalp irritaion going on :( Now I am considering doing like a semi-permenant cinnamon type color that wouldn't be so hard on my scalp. I hope this helps. Seriously this will work. I had what everyone called porn star blond when I was done. And it's cheap as hell to do it yourself.
ReplyDeleteOh, and don't wash your hair for a day or too before bleaching you will need that natural oil to protect your scalp. And if you need 2 bleach jobs wait 24-48 hrs in between them so you can build that oil back up!!
ReplyDelete*two i mean
ReplyDeleteHonestly I've used a lot of bleaches and what I found works the best without leaving a yellow or orange tint to my hair was Feria's Extra Bleach Blonde. When I'd dyed my hair black and tried to bleach it I used a bleach that left my hair this bright orangey-yellow and a week later used the Feria Extra Bleach Blonde, it got out almost all of the yellow/orange for me. =] Also avoid washing your hair so it gets oily, it'll help protect it a little bit. I hope that helps.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any suggestions, but I wanted to say I'm excited to see you as a blonde! And you were an adorable 4 year old!
ReplyDeleteI would say go to a pro the first time to get the red out and then keep it up at home. I don't know though, after 12 years of bleaching I just went back to my roots. I haven't wanted to go back to the blonde just yet! But I think that you're going to look great! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteA) You called me an amazing writer- you have NO idea how flattering that is. Thank you so much.
ReplyDeleteB) You have big juicy sexy lady lips. That is all.
(and by that is all, because when I read it back it sounded like maybe I didn't type it out correctly, I mean, "that is all, I'm running away now, because I feel like I'm being totally inappropriate")
ReplyDeletePlease can I vote for blonde highlights mixed in, instead of all blonde? I just love the red - I think it suits your kick ass personality.
ReplyDeleteLove the old skool pictures of you! You're so cute!
ReplyDeleteI'd say find a professional stylist in your area that has mucho experience with color/bleaching etc and splurge on the bleach job from them :). I'd hate to see you fry your hair! I dye my hair orange red, and when I've bleached it, it is still has an orange tint. I could double bleach it, but then it may break a ton of it off. I don't mind the tint, and my hair is still healthy. I say, take baby steps. Start with the front of your hair, and gradually bleach more and more sections toward the back until its all done.... but, I'm not a professional either :P Can't wait to see!
