TGIF everyone!
Today, I have a review for you on the Black Onyx skin care line from Lionesse Gem. When asked to review these products, I was able to choose from 5 *precious gem* inspired skin care lines by Lionesse. I chose Black Onyx due to it's protective properties.
*I agreed to the review before seeing the actual price of each product as the *Gem* lines had not yet been released. After seeing the price of each product, I'm a bit on the fence about these.
What is Lionesse Gem?

Let's start with what comes in the Black Onyx collection- image and descriptions per website.

Palmitate) this cream will improve the appearance of inelastic skin.
Full set: $3000.00
The products came packaged in this fancy boxes.

Directions, ingredients and a little bit of information about each product is nicely printed on the back of the boxes.

I like that the bottles have a pump applicator.

I have been able to test out each product for the last few weeks to give a pretty good account as to how I feel about them and how well they perform. (For the price, I'd hope they are filled with magic.)
Pros:
- Each product is lightly scented. There is absolutely NO overpowering scent or smell which I find to be a pleasant surprise for a face product.
- Product feels light on the skin.
- The Black Onyx Mask feels amazing once applied to the skin. It has a warming effect that soothes the skin and feels amazing. My face felt so soft the day after use!
- The idea of different gem stone themed facial products is fun and I like the way they broke down each collection with different descriptive meanings.
- Ingredients in each product are beneficial to the skin
- Not one of the products made my skin feel oily or greasy after use
- No animal testing
- Paraban free .
- Since using the Black Onyx mask just last night, paired with the Black Onyx serum, my skin already feels healthier and softer this morning. There is also a healthy glow to my cheeks.
Cons:
- Hefty price tag. I personally would never spend $1,000 on a face mask or $600.00 on a face cream.
- Packaging is big and bulky
- The ingredients/directions are not printed directly on each jar
- My skin freaked and broke out for a few days after using these products repeatedly and consistently for a week. I am hoping this was just due to using a new skin care product and that these products were drawing the "bad" out of my skin.
It is going to take me a few months to make a concrete assessment on whether these products are worth $3,000.00 as a set. I will be doing a new post in the coming months with an update. I also update my Instagram frequently @makeupzombie so be sure to check me out there too!
Do you like the idea of gem themed skin care? Would you purchase any of these products?
*products in this post were sent by Lionesse Beauty Bar for review and consideration purposes only. All opinions are my own and 100% honest.

Holy cow - that's some expensive stuff! I like the idea behind it, though. I hope it works well for you.
ReplyDeleteYeah for 3000 I could get tons of fillers, Botox, other things that will actually do something to your skin. The sales guy pulled me in the store right after I got my botox and filler and tried way too hard to sell me this stuff. ent from this to a flat iron. He gave me a sample of something and it was nothing special and it was a cheaper( 350.00) cream. Only cream that will really help the skin is Retinols, vitamin C and AHA's. They are the only topical things proven to promote collagen. I don't see these bars staying in business very long with the prices.
DeleteI first looked at the product photos and thought they looked fancy. Then I saw the price and was floored. Like you, I'd never pay this much for skincare products. Please do keep up updated on how they work.
ReplyDeleteHi Wendi! I stumbled upon your blog today while researching make-up, and I am intrigued (but put off by the price of) the Lionesse Gem skin care products. I sure hope it's working and would love to see a follow-up post on how your skin has been!
ReplyDeleteGreat site!
Wow!. Thanks for the new suggestions. I have seen some Skin Care Products For Women at My Beauty Bazar. Will try this too. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI was accosted by the woman at a mall kiosk selling this line. The first offer was $300 for the eye cream and she'd throw in the scrub for free. Too much, I said. Then she offered the eye cream for $200, and she'd throw in the scrub and the moisturizer for free. Still too much. She ended up selling me the eye cream for $100 with a 20% discount. I figured that was not more than some other high end products, so I bought it. If it works better than the Regenerist I buy at Costco for $19.00 a jar, I might consider a return, but I will never pay $400 for it.
ReplyDeleteI had a similar experience to RadGal70....I ended up spending 20 minutes at a kiosk in the mall while the sales person sampled several "pearl products on my hand & wrist. In hindsight, I realized if you are buying a product for your face, you should try it on your face. The skin peel works well removing dead skin. It is also extremely hard to remove once the dead skin has bonded to the peach fuzz on your face. Now maybe I am behind the times because one of my friends in beauty school offered me a whole face wax - absolutely not!! Yes, I have very blond fuzz on my cheeks, but nothing I ever thought about removing...it's always been there and it's definitely not what I would consider rogue facial hair!! Well, after pulling at the little balls with a wash cloth, to no avail, I decided to go over my skin lightly with a trimmer. The only issue there is that my eight year old son walked in at the perfect moment and of course panicked a little when he saw mom shaving her face!!! As long as he doesn't mention it to dad, this will all blow over. Now, if I sound like I am ambivalent, it's because I am. I purchased only this one product, listed on the Lioness website for $200, I paid $35!! (She gave me her discount) yeah, right. I actually left the kiosk with enough moisturizer samples for a month & a black onyx body bar. I love free stuff as much as the next girl, but the girl totally devalued the products. The whole experience reminded me of an episode of Pawn Stars...start as high as you can, by the time the buyer caves you might be close to the real value. About the whole gemstone thing - I'd rather have them dripping from my fingers than tangled up in my fuzz!!
ReplyDeleteHi! I had never even heard of the line until yesterday. Walking through the mall with my 19 year old, we were interested in the hair station they had right in front of the store. After purchasing a flat iron, we were led into the store for our free facial sign up, which was actually another sales pitch. The people were very nice. I knew it had to be some really expensive stuff, but I stayed to check it out...my daughter and I were having fun! Love skin care and make up! If I'd have been alone, I never would've stopped. Anyway, I am 47 and have some fairly deep laugh lines and crows feet. The sales lady put their collagen filler gel on my lines. HOLY MOLY!! I am completely blown away! I have never seen anything like it! I am so skeptical about these types of things, would NEVER botox or anything, nor do I spend much money on skincare. I just don't have that kind of money. But, after all the wheeling and dealing, we did end up with a ton of product, free cream samples and 3 free facials for $400. We did not use the Black Onyx line, although she did demonstrate the heating mask! Very cool! It's the next day, and the wrinkle filler is still working. Supposed to reapply only weekly! My skin looks and feels nice. Used the milk cleanser and toner, wrinkle serum and daily cream. Looking forward to this morning's wash, and my first facial is later today.
ReplyDeleteThis leads me to how I found your blog...I was trying to learn about Lionesse Gem! I would NEVER EVER in a million years pay that kind of money!!!! They are in the business of selling, and did not want us walking out with nothing. Haggling for sure. Think I am happy, definitely guilty about the money, but if this does last, then it should even out.
Sorry for the length of the post. Thank you for the forum!
Keri :)
Like some of you i was pressurised to part with Sgd1850 for 4 products after the sale person bought out the products one after another persistently and kept me in the shop & not letting me go with excuses like just a couple more mins over several times and i end up held up there for more than 2.5 hours. I felt they used pressure tactics & freebies to entice the deal and he spoke so well and quite pushy on selling the items to me. I don't earn much half of my salary has gone to buying their products. I really hope the products works for me or else it will be a great disappointment for me to wasted half month of my salary
ReplyDeleteSame here. But my guy was horrible. I was at the mall for winter boots for a trip and he made me unable to get a pair because he wouldn't let me go and the stores closed. I bought nothing and told him I was in sales and he was just turning me off with his harsh approach. Ugh.
DeleteWendi, trying to find your comments after you tried the products for a while. I was "persuaded" to purchase these in Vegas .. cried when I realized how much i spent, but going to give them a try. Just wondered what you found out after your Sept 2014 post.
ReplyDeleteYou may come across a number of oily skin care products such as- creams, lotions, gel, masks, etc. But before using any product always check the ingredients of the product written at the back of the pack & always choose an organic product. http://www.thedermreport.com/v-tight-gel-review/
