Zombies!

Today was a pretty lazy day!  My daughter and I picked out our colors for this week. I loved hers and was unhappy with mine. Guess I'll be changing it soon! lol

Mommy choose: China Glaze "Little Drummer Boy" from the holiday 2010 collection. While the color is a gorgeous dark Navy blue shimmer and took only 2 coats, it took forever and a day to dry and was really goopy/messy. It is one of those colors that glows from the inside out. 



Little Miss Leia picked out Zoya "Kiki" today. The perfect girly girl bright pink with glass flecks. She wouldn't sit still, so we made a mess on her fingers, but it still looks so cute and pretty for my little princess!

Hi Zombies!

I read somewhere just recently, that there is a website where people can anonymously share their deepest darkest secret, one they have never told anyone because they are too ashamed or too embarrassed...or it's just TOO juicy! And you know, if you do that, it's good for your soul. It's hard keeping something in that is screaming to come out.

So, because of that, I wanted to dedicate a post to our dirty little secrets. Come on, don't be shy, tell us! One catch though, please post Anonymously, unless you're cool with everyone knowing who you are. :)

I'm going to keep this an ongoing post and create a page for it at the top of the blog. What can I say....I like being the ringmaster! Woot! Oh and I'm the last person on earth to judge someone else. :D

LOTD with Persephone Minerals!

I know it's Swatch Spam Saturday, but I decided to do a look instead. OH DARN!  I think you'll like it. The gorgeous Victoria from Persephone Minerals and I worked out a little deal and I was able to get some new eyeshadow. I received them today and couldn't help but dive right in and do a look with them! These shadows are so complex and pretty. I adore them!

Be warned, all the full face shots look weird. Oh and I finally got another black star nose ring!

As mentioned earlier, here is a super kick ass post for girls who love lipgloss. If you're like me, and don't wear makeup every day (shocking, I know!) you don't leave the house with at least some gloss. And Milani's Glitzy gloss will give you a little bit of sparkle with your shine!

I really do LOVE these glosses and I always have (well, since they first came out. LMAO). I love the smell, the shine, the sparkles, and the staying power. I'm not 100% sold on their packaging, but I can work around that. I also love that each gloss has an application brush as opposed to the dough foot application, which seems to dry out after some time. (ICK!)







 

My favorites from this group are Movie Star and Fashion Diva. You can't tell, but Movie Star has tons of pink sparkles throughout it's blue base and Fashion Diva was the first Milani gloss I ever purchased and holds a special place in my heart. These smell like heaven- I describe the smell as a warm sugar cookie, yet not too overpowering.  You can purchase Milani's 3D Glitzy Glamour in your local drugstores, Cherry Culture, or Milani direct. You, know, speaking of that....Yeah, that little statement above.. I've seen a lot of bloggers talking about how other beauty bloggers can't form a "true" opinion of something if they didn't actually buy it with their own money. (*steps on soapbox*) This has been bothering me for some time now, and I've actually declined reviewing things, because I didn't want to seem like a product hungry blogger. But you know what? I'm over it. I did receive these for free, but do you realize HOW much money I have shelled out in the last year for makeup? Living Dead Grrl Review and Swatches!

Good evening Zombies!

I'm excited about this review, because it's my first time reviewing eyeshadow from the UK! Lyndsay from Living Dead Grrl (on Etsy) asked me to try out her new line of eyeshadow to see how long it would take to ship to the US. (She's only considering making this an option as of now.)

I love Lyndsay's mission statement on her Etsy page:

My samples were mailed on 01/18/2010 and I received them on 01/24/2010. Isn't that completely unheard or soemthing?! 6 days!?! I was floored when I saw the package yesterday.

I tore open the package to see this little gem!



I was very impressed by the sample baggie sizes and the cute little handwritten note Lyndsay included, but the winner of the organza bag was what was inside the little baggies!





I would be lying if I didn't say that even before being contacted by Lyndsay, that I wanted all the eyeshadow inspired by The Cure and Spaced! My husband and I LOVE that show! And yes, yes I do wish I had a British accent. AND WHAT?! The eyeshadows were all very pigmented with just the right amount of sparkle and shimmer. They reminded me a little of Shiro Cosmetics eyeshadows, for an American comparison, but all had a life and personality of their own. I don't own a color like Wooman and I love Derby Wife as it has a MAC "Stars and Rocket's" feel to it.

And I giggle everytime I read the eyeshadow called "Heeello Brian" because I think of this:

Like I said earlier, LDG is currently just based in the UK, but Lyndsay may open her shop to International shipping at some point. What's Cooking at MZ for 2011?

Good monring Zombies!

Yesterday while everyone was coughing their heads off, I sat down with a little notepad and wrote down all the ideas that are floating around in my head for the blog. I have so much I need to do that I was feeling a little overwhelmed. I decided I needed to do certain posts on more of a weekly/monthly basis, so I don't feel so pressured to DO IT NOW! Here are some of the fun new things you can look forward to on Makeup Zombie for 2011.

Mommy and Me- Nail Sunday's. My little girl and I will share with you our mani's for the week.

Beautiful Zombie- this will be on a weekly basis for now, until I get more entries.

Swatch Spam Saturdays- if I keep it to one day, I'll have lotz of swatches for you!

Favorites of the month- I decided this would be fun to try. I will post my favorite products the beginning of each month for the previous month!

Drugstore product reviews and indie product reviews- sprinkled in here and there.

LOTD- I WILL do at least one LOTD each week, more if I have the time. :D I scoured the internetz last night looking for inspirational makeup pictures, and I found a kazillion!

FOOOOOD!- I have promised myself in 2011 that I am going to experiment more with food. I want to eat healthier and BE healthier and lose weight along the way. My path started Jan. 1st and though I won't share details right now, IT'S WORKING!

I made this awesome Chicken, Brocolli, and Mushroom quiche last night with leftover baked chicken I made the night before. I almost fell over in my chair it was so damn good. I surprised the crap out of myself!


Yesterday marked my 1 year of blogging and OMG, I forgot it....so, here's to one year everyone. Thank you for being amazing readers/followers and thank you for introducing such an amazing colorful world to me! I've had so much fun blogging and can't wait to continue on my path.

Mommy and Me- Nail Sunday!

Hey Zombies!

Happy Sunday. My weekend went by.too.fast.

Every Sunday I am going to paint my nails and my 3 year old daughter's nails as a feature for the blog. It will be called Mommy and Me- Nail Sunday! Leia loves when I paint her nails, so I thought it would be fun to include her in the little feature!

Mommy (Wendi)  is wearing Zoya Valerie this week and Leia is wearing Deborah Lippman's Happy Birthday. (She chose it herself!)

I picked up Valerie as part of Zoya's 3 free giveaway and I am so glad I did. Such a vampy color full of sparkle and shimmer. It really shines in the sunlight too. I love that it glows from the inside out. Such a great color! You really must click the pictures to get the full effect!

(Please excuse my awful cuticles and messy application. I had just taken off a crackle polish that I used way too much of, and it was a nightmare.)





Getting a 3 year old to sit still for pictures of her nails is tough! But we had fun. And the glitter on her little fingernails is just too cute! Shiny, just like her personality!



I used a coat of China Glaze Fast Foward Top Coat above our polish.

Morning Zombies!

I'm slowly coming back to life. I think I'm now officially ready for Spring. Less sickness, warmer weather, happier kids!

Today I bring you my very first "beautiful zombie" creation, coming at you from Taryn of Mascara Mineral Junkie!

I think this turned out pretty amazing!

Taryn, tell us a little about this look:

"I know I didn't do a full look but i got creative and decided to play around and i got this cool zombie eye =] I included a picture of all the things i used (minus Pixie Epoxy)

I did this look because Zombie movies have been my inspiration for years. I would watch the same movie 4 to 7 times in one day just to analyze the makeup and costuming. So, without all the special effects I decided to create my Zombie look using all mineral makeup."

Wet N' Wild and Crazy EOTD!

Zombies....
I am sick.again. My baby son Cooper was up all last night and this morning, so at 4:30 am my husband loaded into the car and took him to the ER. He has croup ( which is a highly contagious virus in the airway passages.) He's now given it to me and my daughter. :( I feel like total shit, just in a matter of hours. I want to take care of him, I want to sleep, I just want to cry today. *fingers crossed it passses soon*



Yesterday I headed to good old Walgreen's in search of the noew infamous WnW trip pallete's in I'm Feeling Retro and I Dream of Greenie. To my shock and amazement, the had BOTH! So, yeah, I grabbed them. Because yesterday, I promised a bright look today, I went ahead and did one eye with the palletes. I must tell you, for $2.99, these are a steal! They have excellent pigmentation and are so creamy and blendable. WnW has truly stepped up their game. I highly suggest you get one of these palletes. And if you aren't brave enough to wear birght ass green, they have several neutral palletes as well!











I used a little of both palette for this look. Just look at that lime green color! Stellar!

Evening Zombies!

I realize it's been a little bit since I devoted an entire post to a LOTD and decided to throw a quick one together tonight.. but...I don't really like the way it turned out. I have SO many eyeshadows yet, I always reach for dark bold colors. Oh well...this for this look I at least used 2 colors I've never used before. So that's a good thing.



I kicked the following picture up a notch and dang, do I ever want that color of lipstick!

The Goods:

Two Faced Shadow Insurance all over lid
Avon Big Color Eye Pencil in "Night Glisten" all over lid blended with a brush for a dark sticky base
Aromaleigh "Emerenta" blended on top of dark the base
Aromaleigh "Collete" blended into crease and down into lower lash line
Evil Shades "Chusi" blended above crease
Aromaleigh "Milky Way" under brown bone and inner corner of eye
Random liners and mascara

Cheeks:
JANE Blushing Blossom with Lorac cheek stamp in "Hibiscus" added on top for shimmer

Lips:
ULTA lipliner in "Beet"
Evil Shades "Devilista" lipstick (you can't really tell, but this was red, red, red.)

Tomorrow, I shall use light pastels! Woot.

And last but not least...2 of my 3 kids at the end of a day!



Why YES it does look like he's about to say a bad "f" word, but trust me. The kid thinks "shut up" is a bad word and knows the wrath of Mommy should he utter the bad "f" word. "But Mommy sayz it all the time!"



He hugged her so hard, her pants came down. haha

My very first *big* makeup purchase.. a YEAR ago!

Hey Zombies!

Happy Hump Day! I keep thinking it's Thursday and it's really throwing me off. Being a SAHM is weird on my internal clock. haha

In 4 days I will have had MZ going for 1 whole year! Because of that, I wanted to show everyone my very first *BIG* high end makeup purchase. I scoured Youtube last year looking for a good palette from Urban Decay. I loved the look of the Sustainable Shadow Box because of it's kick ass front cover. I had my heart set on it. I went to Sephora and swatched it. I was not at all excited about ALL THAT GLITTER in 5 of the 10 shadows! (keep in mind, I wasn't into makeup much yet at this point.) So I passed it up for a Tart palette. I got home and hated the Tart palette so much that I returned it the next day and purchased the Sustainable Shadow Box AND my very first UDPP in "Sin."

I was happy with the palette for a while. It is very much a starter palette with an array of colors. I did hate the fallout from the glitter but once I learned how to control that, it wasn't too bad. This poor palette now sits in my makeup box all alone.. It really is such a cool package and great for those who DON'T hoard makeup like I do.  I guess I've just moved on. Should I save it for when my daughter is.much.much older? (hehe)
